eCycle Helps The Shenandoah Fair '09 Recycle!

Picture
August 19,2009 Today was the Day! eCycle and Troop 5 tackled the permanent recycling barrels for the Shenandoah County Fair! Brian Ash of eCycle Green Collective showed up bright and early with his construction crew to start modification of the barrels donated by Coca Cola and O'Sullivan Films. The 100 barrels will be used throughout the year by hosts of events such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and upcoming Family Fun Day held in October each year.
eCycle crew members formed an assembly line to drilled through the tops of the barrels to enlarge the holes used for the original purpose of the containers. The next group removed the entire lid using a reciprocating saw and sent the barrel on to have wooden stops screwed into the inside rim. This allowed the modified lid to sit in place of the blocks.
Members of Strasburg Boy Scout Troop 5 under the guidance of Howard Colson applied the red Coca Cola recycling wraps and then turned them over to Butch who used the heat gun to shrink the wrappers in place. Shaun Smith Area Rep for Coke and Phil Free of O'Sullivan Films did their parts with Shaun helping to empty water from the white barrels and Phil making several trips to deliver the 50 brand new barrels his company donated to the fair.

It was a cloudy day but that did not dampen the spirits of the men at work. All this was made possible by these and the 28 sponsors who contributed at least $100 each to cover the cost of recycling at the 2009 Shenandoah County Fair. Thanks to all who believe in this "no brainer" cause as some of the kids call it. After all, it is these young people who will benefit most from our becoming more responsible as adults.
